Asbestos usually shows up when you least expect it
A home inspection during a sale flags the siding. A kitchen remodel lifts old floor tile. A water leak opens a wall in a house built before 1980. Suddenly the project stops, and you need a licensed abatement contractor before anyone can keep working.
We'll get your project moving again
AmeriTribe holds a corporate Virginia asbestos contractor license, and every worker on the crew holds an individual asbestos license renewed each year. Because we are also a Class A contractor, the company that removes the asbestos can finish the repair or the remodel.

Where is asbestos found in Hampton Roads homes?
In homes built before 1980, AmeriTribe most often finds asbestos in vinyl floor tile and its mastic, transite siding, roofing, popcorn ceilings, and pipe and boiler insulation. It usually turns up during a sale inspection or when a kitchen or bathroom remodel starts pulling up old materials.
What is the difference between friable and non-friable asbestos?
Non-friable asbestos, like floor tile and roofing shingles, is bound into a hard material and releases fibers mainly when it is broken, sanded or scraped. Friable asbestos, like pipe and thermal system insulation, can crumble by hand and releases fibers easily. AmeriTribe handles each differently, with friable material requiring the strictest containment.
Our asbestos testing and removal process
Testing. Suspect materials are sampled and confirmed before work is planned.
Written scope. What is coming out, how, and what it costs, before work starts.
Sealed containment. The work area is sealed off with plastic barriers and air scrubbers.
Protected crew. Licensed workers in respirators and protective suits.
Removal. Tile, mastic, siding or insulation removed by the method each material calls for.
Bagged disposal. Material is sealed, bagged and disposed of as regulated waste.
Repairs. New flooring, siding or walls, by the same company.
Asbestos in a crawl space or behind a water leak?
AmeriTribe treats the specific work area rather than tearing out more than the job needs, including crawl spaces where old materials have broken down into the soil. When asbestos turns up during a water or fire job, our licensed crew handles it without stopping the project.
From a client
★★★★★
I recently had to pause a crawl‑space encapsulation project after discovering possible asbestos. My contractor recommended AmeriTribe for the asbestos removal and air testing, and I’m extremely grateful they did. From the very beginning, Chris at AmeriTribe was exceptionally professional, responsive, and helpful in getting everything scheduled quickly.
The team completed the work efficiently and coordinated fast turnaround testing through the Norfolk labs to confirm the crawl space was safe. Their ability to complete the service and deliver results in a single day has allowed my contractor to stay on schedule and return to finish the project on January 22, 2026.
AmeriTribe’s professionalism, communication, and timeliness truly exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing asbestos testing or remediation
What waiting costs you
Disturbing asbestos without containment can spread fibers through the house. Scraping, sanding or tearing out suspect materials yourself is the one thing not to do. Leave it in place, keep people away from it, and get it tested.
What affects the cost of asbestos removal?
Cost depends on the type of material, whether it is friable or non-friable, how much there is, where it is (a kitchen floor versus a crawl space), and what has to be rebuilt afterward. Homeowners insurance often does not cover asbestos abatement, so AmeriTribe helps you find out what your policy says, and gives you a written scope before work begins.
What moves the price up or down
- Type of material and whether it is friable
- Square footage or linear feet of pipe
- Access: attic, crawl space or living area
- Containment needed
- Repairs after removal

Is it safe to leave asbestos in place?
Often, yes. The EPA says the best thing is usually to leave asbestos-containing material alone if it is in good condition and will not be disturbed, by remodeling for example. Before any project that would disturb it, have it tested and handled by trained professionals.

Asbestos Testing and Removal FAQ
Is AmeriTribe licensed for asbestos removal?
Yes. AmeriTribe LLC holds Virginia Asbestos Contractor license #3306001176 from the Board for Asbestos, Lead, and Home Inspectors, and each worker holds an individual asbestos license renewed every year. You can verify the company license on the DPOR website.
Does homeowners insurance cover asbestos removal?
Often it does not. Asbestos abatement is frequently excluded unless it is part of a covered loss, and even then coverage varies. AmeriTribe won't promise coverage; we help you check your policy and document everything for your adjuster.
How do I know if my home has asbestos?
You can't tell by looking. If your home was built before 1980 and you have old vinyl floor tile, transite siding, popcorn ceilings or wrapped pipes, have the material tested before you disturb it.
Can I stay home during asbestos abatement?
It depends on where the work is. For a contained area, like one room or a crawl space, many families stay. For larger jobs or friable material near living areas, it may be safer to be elsewhere. We will tell you before work starts.
Do you remove asbestos before a home sale?
Yes. Sale inspections are one of the most common reasons we get called. We test, give you a written scope you can share with the buyer, remove the material and repair what was disturbed.
